March...

March Madness? March Mediocrity more like. And I'm NOT talking basketball. It just been kinda a slow month here. Not much going on, but I set a goal to blog more often, so bear with me as I struggle to come up with interesting things to talk about.

See this big crazy mug below? .
He turned a quarter of a century old on March 2nd. For his birthday he got a new laptop. He always ends up picking out his own gifts and they are always something big enough that he doesn't get any other gifts at least not from 'me'. So it is pretty easy cause then I don't have to think of something to get him. For his party he had a LAN party. There was 15 guys over and they all played LoL mostly, some Team Fortress. And a few guys were playing some fighting game... Street Fighter or Tekken or something similar. Went ALL night til 6am the next morning! But it was a good time had by all. Oh and because I just like to show that I do occasionally use ideas I find on Pinterest... I made these for the party. Jake loved them and I'm pretty sure ate more than half of them himself, which is fine since it is his birthday. Also, because he doesn't like cake, I made him birthday brownies, with nuts!

Some recent Evan feats: drinking from a straw, waving bye-bye, the sign for "all done", matches the shapes in his shape sorter toys, and understands the door knob is to open doors so he reaches up to it when he wants the door open. I'm sure there are a few other little ones, but those are the only ones I can think of right now. It just surprises me how quick it happens, like one day he doesn't do something and then all the sudden he is doing it.

My dad got me into penny bidding. He has been doing it for a while now and wins a bunch of stuff. So I finally broke down and tried it out. It is kinda gambling I guess... but so far I've spent $75 and won $125 in giftcards, a webcam, a pack of 20 AA batteries, and a bottle of OPI nail polish. Not the most exciting thing to win batteries but hey can always use them, right? I think as long as I come out ahead its worth it. Not like some people I know who went to Wendover and spent $130 and lost it all... sigh. Anyway hopefully my luck continues. Well that is pretty much all I can think of to say, so until next time...

Playin at the Park

It was such a nice day today that we decided to go for a walk over to the nearby park and play. We had lots of fun. Evan is sooo silly! Especially when trying to go down the slide.
Lost a shoe, bum in the air.

His favorite was for sure the steering wheel.

Trying out the slide with Mama

Climbing up the "rock wall"

Decided to go down backwards

Monkey Bars! or... Rings?

Um... the sun is in my eyes!

Heading home.

Also, in hindsight, khakis were a bad choice for Evan, they were filthy once we got done playing.

And heres another pic of my mischief maker. I swear, you forget to close the toilet and within 3 minutes...

And here's some more recent pics of my parents new home. This is the actually the back/basement.
Well until next time :)

Cake Smash/ 1 year photos/ Spider drama

Okay, I figured it out. My video file was too big, duh! Its over 8 minutes, so I just had to do some compression and it worked! So without further ado, here is the Epitome of the first birthday: The cake smashing! Which in Evan's case was more of a cake smearing. He is pretty timid about it so if you want to skip to about 6 minutes in that is when he starts getting a little crazier.

Also we had his 12 month well checkup at the doctor's, so here are some 12 month stats!
Height: 31 inches
Weight: 21 lbs 3 oz
Head: 17 inches
So he is long and lean, and his head is just a tad smaller than average (40%) which it has been all along, so he is pretty much sticking to the same proportions. He has 8 teeth, 4 top, 4 bottom. Sadly doesn't say any words yet. He knows the sounds Ma and Da but just doesn't use them directed at us yet. :( But is climbing on everything and walking around like a champ, even in shoes, which he had to get the hang of. We used to get away with just putting the toilet paper up high and closing the lid, but no more. He has learned to open the toilet lid... so now bathroom door stays closed. Thankfully he hasn't figured out zippers still, so my purse shall remain safe for a while longer. He LOVES to get into laundry, and empty all the dresser drawers/laundry baskets he can reach.
So needless to say, I've walked in on something like the above more than once. Its real fun trying to figure out which were the clean from the drawer and which were the dirty from the basket...
I'm starting to give him Vitamin D (whole) milk this week too. So far he has been pretty good with it. So hopefully weaning is not too far off. I made it to the year mark and that was my goal and I'm pretty ready to quit breastfeeding. Evan... not so much. But we'll see.

My friend, Kaesie, who was a co-worker from Comcast is a photographer, so I asked her to take some One Year pictures of Evan. I brought his cute cape that Linsey made and I think they all turned out very cute. Here they are:

Yeah, I know my baby is the cutest little boy ever! I am excited to see what fun things he'll do this next year!

Okay now a completely unrelated and polar opposite event. The following is not for the faint of heart. You may or may not know that when it comes to spiders, I am not a fan. That is putting it lightly. I'm pretty sure my mom jinxed me because she bought Evan for his birthday, a clear ball that has little spiders on the inside that move around when you bounce it. She said she thought specifically of me when buying it. I was not amused and told her it was creepy but whatever, Evan is a boy and boys like bugs and gross things like that. Anyway back to my story... It was Saturday, after Evan's party, Jake had gone to hang out with some friends so it was just me and Bubba and the cat hanging out. Well I realized I didn't have my phone and Jake gets mad when I leave it in another room and he texts/calls me, so I figured I better find my phone. I looked in my purse, not there. I looked in my room, nope. Maybe I brought it into Evan's room, I can't see it. So I turn to leave and I see this: (I took this as far away as possible on maximum zoom)
Eeeeeeeeeee! My heart starts racing. This is right near the door. I seriously am frozen in fear. I literally cannot bring myself to leave the room. I know this is dumb but its a phobia, which by definition means its irrational. So I am trapped in Evan's room. Oh and remember how I was looking for my phone? I don't have it so I can't even call or text Jake to come home and save me.
Eventually Evan, who was in the other room, comes in and I quickly grab him away from the dangers of the Spider and we play in the opposite corner of the room, my eyes constantly watching. The spider which thankfully has remained stationary, suddenly moves, I shriek, Evan laughs at me, the spider stops again. Forty minutes have passed. I try getting the cat to attack and eat the spider, but as the spider is not moving, the cat doesn't seem to notice what I'm frantically motioning and pushing him towards.
I have no idea how late Jake is going to be out. I finally realize I am going to have to be my own rescuer. I'm not wearing shoes and I tend to freak out anyway when trying to squash a spider, so killing is out of the question. I figure if I can just trap it, I will be able to leave the room knowing that its not going to escape and make babies or eat me later. So I empty out one of Evan's clear plastic drawers and am going to put it upside down over the spider. It takes me probably 5 mintues to talk myself into doing it because I am forced to put my hand within 2 feet of the spider.
Finally I do it, thankfully the spider was none the wiser and did not make a mad dash to escape as I was certain would happen. I put the car seat on top, you know just in case the spider is strong enough to lift a plastic drawer. I find my phone in the front room. Oh look, missed calls and texts from Jake. I call him and relay to him my terrifying event as to why I didn't answer, he laughs but understands. In the end, the spider gets squashed, and hey now that its dead the cat suddenly wants to eat it... figures. Anyway, just thought I'd share that random story. I hope you don't get trapped in any rooms due to spiders. Until next time...
